I know very little about him as my mother died many years ago. I would like to know more of him if anyone does know of him. I only have one photgraph in boxing pose - he was a champion boxer in Northern Ireland, fly weight I think.

He has just celebrated his 84th birthday.(10.07.09) He was on-board during the ill-discipline incident of 1945 and had a hand in resolving it.

Javelin during the war years (sorry - exact dates not known) including the Malta convoys. I remember him mentioning benzedrine tablets to keep awake!, and he could have been on 'guns' (pom-poms, he called them "Chicago pianos") He was in No.2 Mess, and it would be nice to hear from anyone who knew him. I've some photos of him with some mates ashore at Malta, Alexandria etc., but unfortunately no names of the lads. Sadly, Ken 'crossed the line' on 14th.March, 2009

| | Date: | 13/04/2009 20:11:18 | | Subject: | Ernest Bickers | | | Ernest also served on HMS Javlin, with Lord Mountbaten, my father gave my mother a brooch with the name javlin on it, which I now have, I think seaman Bernard bonner could have been my fathers friend, and he did say about this seaman getting killed. A piece was written in our local paper regarding my father serving on HMS Javlin when she was commissioned and was serving on her when war was declared. They went into action almost immediately, and it is believed that the first German Ship to be sunk was a victim of the Javlin.
If anyone can remember my father I would love to hear from them.

| | Date: | 07/02/2009 00:46:53 | | Subject: | Dennis Knight..also known as John..and called Bogey Knight on board | | | I was very happy to find this site..My late Father was an azdic operator on board The Javelin, im really not sure what years he served, but he was in the Med and visited Malta, Gibralta etc...
I came into the possession of the FLAG..from the Javelin some years ago, but unfortunately it got left behind in a garden shed!!! when i moved house...so silly, i suppose years ago i didnt realise the value of such an item, and it should of course been in a safe place..something i could now kick myself for!!., but i was only young then.
I remember my Father saying that he once fell asleep on Azdic duty for about a minute, and was terrified that he had missed something...
I now live in Portsmouth, the roads of which i beleive my Father helped to build when he was demobbed...
so The Navy is close to my heart...
I will send a photo of my Father...in case anyone recognises him.
Thanks again for the site.
kind regards Lynn | | | | | |

It is 70 inches long, of fibre glass construction and propelled by twin screws driven by two marine electric motors. I built the model 33 years ago and I sail it [almost] every Sunday morn at the local lakein Nanaimo, British Columbia.
I also have a copy of a book "Destoyer Man" written by Rear Admiral A.F. Pugsley who was the first Captain of this vessel showing the damage done by the German detroyers.
I have an excellent photo of the model if anyone is interested.
