I came into the possession of the FLAG..from the Javelin some years ago, but unfortunately it got left behind in a garden shed!!! when i moved house...so silly, i suppose years ago i didnt realise the value of such an item, and it should of course been in a safe place..something i could now kick myself for!!., but i was only young then.
I remember my Father saying that he once fell asleep on Azdic duty for about a minute, and was terrified that he had missed something...
I now live in Portsmouth, the roads of which i beleive my Father helped to build when he was demobbed...
so The Navy is close to my heart...
I will send a photo of my Father...in case anyone recognises him.
Thanks again for the site.
kind regards Lynn | | | | | |

It is 70 inches long, of fibre glass construction and propelled by twin screws driven by two marine electric motors. I built the model 33 years ago and I sail it [almost] every Sunday morn at the local lakein Nanaimo, British Columbia.
I also have a copy of a book "Destoyer Man" written by Rear Admiral A.F. Pugsley who was the first Captain of this vessel showing the damage done by the German detroyers.
I have an excellent photo of the model if anyone is interested.

My Grandmother received a telegram to say he was missing but then he arrived home safe and sound and lived to the age of 95. He would not talk of his experiences. I believe he may have worked in the engine room. He also served on submarines and I was amazed to learn that he could not swim. He always kept a picture of the damaged Javelin by his bed and his wife had a brooch of the ship. I am very proud of my Grandfather.

I'm familiar with my Dad's war but to be able to read about what else was going on and how the stories touch, helps me understand a bit more of the whole. It's difficult to comprehend what it is like to live during a world war but sites such as this help us to appreciate a little of what our fathers and grandfathers suffered to give us freedom. Well done, Harry - great work!

I have a photo of the crew on board at that time. I also have his hat ribbon, identity card (he was in Mess 8) and medals.
Dad died in 1991 and never spoke a lot about his war service, however the Javelin was the ship that he did mention and was proud of his time serving aboard her. He had a small wooden replica of the ship that is now owned by my brother.
